Laurel, MD — [August 23, 2024] In a powerful tribute to the memory of the September 11th attacks, the City of Laurel, in partnership with Mission BBQ and Army Veteran SGT Pushup, invites the community to participate in a unique event on September 11, 2024. This initiative aims not only to remember those who lost their lives but also to engage the community in a physically active display of resilience and unity.
From 9:11 AM to 9:11 PM, participants are challenged to complete as many push-ups as possible, with a collective goal of reaching 91,111 push-ups. This event symbolizes our community's strength and determination to stand together in the face of adversity. "We are encouraging everyone, regardless of fitness level, to join us in this effort," said Mayor Keith R. Sydnor. "This challenge is a meaningful way to honor the lives lost on 9/11 while fostering a sense of togetherness and perseverance within our community."
Participants are asked to report their push-up count by emailing Laurelmayor@laurel.md.us and to share their participation on social media using the hashtag #LaurelMDRemembers911. Whether you do one push-up or a hundred, every contribution matters. For more information on how to get involved, please contact the City of Laurel’s Department of Communications at (301) 725-5300.
