City of Laurel Announces No Mow April Program

Residents of the City of Laurel are being urged by Mayor Craig A. Moe, the Environmental Affairs Committee,  and Green Living to participate in the City of Laurel’s No Mow April campaign, an initiative encouraging residents to cut back on mowing their lawns for the month of April.

The City of Laurel will relax the enforcement of long-grass rules during April to allow participants in the campaign to delay or reduce lawn cutting as a way to promote pollinator-friendly habitats.

We’re holding a kickoff meeting on Monday, March 20th at 6.30pm at the City’s Laurel Municipal Center, 8103 Sandy Spring Road., Laurel MD. 20707.

Residents will:

  • learn about the importance of protecting and enhancing pollinators;
  • pick up their yard sign;
  • register for Bee City volunteer opportunities;
  •  and sign up for the curbside organics recycling program.

You can register for No Mow April at the kick-off meeting, or online at the City of Laurel’s Green Living webpage at https://www.cityoflaurel.org/green/no-mow-april.

This campaign is part of the City of Laurel’s Bee City USA initiative, which aims to make the City of Laurel more pollinator friendly. By participating, you will not only increase their food source, but you will also avoid disturbing the beneficial insects that hide in the dead leaves and lawns.

Please call Environmental Programs Manager Michele Blair at 301-725-5300, ext. 2203 for more information, or email her at mblair@laurel.md.us.
