Plastic Bag Collection Boxes Now at City Facilities
On January 1, 2024, all businesses will be required to charge a fee for paper bags when you check out, per City of Laurel Ordinance No. 2008.
Mayor Keith R. Sydnor is asking that you Bag It Right and take a reusable bag when you shop to avoid the fee.
Even though you won’t be seeing plastic bags at the stores much longer, there is still a lot of plastic in our lives that should be recycled, like:
- Produce bags
- Store bags
- Ice bags
- Ziploc bags
- Cereal box liners
- Bubble wrap
- Newspaper sleeves
- Case overwrap

We’ve set up collection boxes for all of that and more in the following facilities:
- Joseph R. Robison Laurel Municipal Center: 8103 Sandy Spring Road
- Robert J. DiPietro Community Center: 7901 Cypress Street
- Laurel Armory: 422 Montgomery Street
Each box will each have a QR Code on it, so you can scan it to find out what items to place in the boxes. A handy tag on the side of the boxes is very user friendly too.
The used bags, plastic film, and liners will be collected by the Laurel Lion’s Club and processed by Trex to create plastic composite products – such as decking, fencing and benches.
