[ARCHIVED] Road Closures for Independence Day Celebration, July 6th

Road Closed with Fireworks

(Laurel, MD, June 24, 2024) Due to changes in the fireworks set up for Laurel's Independence Day Celebration on July 6, 2024, significant road closures will be in effect around Cherry Lane and Gude Park. Mayor Keith R. Sydnor advises everyone to plan accordingly to avoid any inconvenience. Key street closures and parking restrictions will be enforced to ensure the safety of all those attending and smooth progression of the festivities.

PARADE: 7:00am – 12:00pm

Prior to the parade, beginning around 7:00am, residents and travelers on 6th Street, from Route 198 Westbound to Main Street, will have street parking restricted for parade contestants as they begin to line up around 9:30am, at which time the road will be closed to traffic.

There will be No Parking for residents and visitors along the parade route (see route below) from 7:00am – 1:00pm. Vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense if they are left on the street after 7:00am.

As the parade participants begin their procession, starting around 11:00am, the following roads will be closed to traffic:

  • The parade route begins at 6th and Montgomery Streets;
  • Heads east on Montgomery Street;
  • Turns south on 4th Street;
  • Crosses over Routes 198 Eastbound and Westbound (Be prepared for traffic to be stopped to allow participants to proceed along the parade route. Please avoid this area between 11:00am and Noon).
  • Passes the Judges’ Stand at Domer Avenue (best place for viewing); and
  • Disperses at Cherry Lane. Parade participants will ONLY be allowed to turn right onto Cherry Lane.

 Additional road closures will be implemented at Cherry Lane for safety reasons, to accommodate the required adjustments in the fireworks setup:

FIREWORKS ARRIVAL: 10:00am – 12:00pm

  1. With the arrival of the fireworks around 10am, Eastbound and Westbound Cherry Lane from Ashford Boulevard to Laurel Place will be closed until Midnight. (The far-right lane on Eastbound Cherry Lane will remain open for local business traffic until 12:00pm. Then will remain closed until Midnight).

ALL DAY: 10:00am – 12:00am

  • The Lake path from Laurel Place to Northlake Court will be closed to pedestrian traffic from 10am – Midnight. Due to the fireworks being in the area, please DO NOT climb over the orange fencing, for your own safety.
  • Sidewalks along Eastbound and Westbound Cherry Lane from Ashford Boulevard to Laurel Place will be closed to pedestrian traffic from 10am – Midnight due to the fireworks in the Cherry Lane/Gude Park area.
  • Fourth Street will be closed in both directions from the Emerson Apartments entrance to Cherry Lane, with no parking allowed from 10am – Midnight.

AFTER THE END OF THE FIREWORKS:

  • Westbound and Eastbound Cherry Lane will remain closed after the fireworks, until it has been policed for fallout debris.

The 4th of July Committee has worked hard to bring you a spectacular day filled with family fun, music, games, vendors and fireworks! To minimize delays and congestion, spectators are encouraged to carpool, arrive early, and use alternate routes when leaving.
