Council member Christine Johnson was elected to her first term on November 7, 2023, representing the City At-Large.
Christine was born and raised in Prince George’s County. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland College Park. After getting married in 2002, Christine settled in Ward 1, raised 2 children and has called Laurel home ever since.
In 2014, Christine began working with the City of Laurel, where her interest in local government grew tremendously. As Administrative Assistant for the Department of Communications, and also backup Receptionist and Passport Agent, Christine has had the opportunity to interact with the public and hear first-hand the questions and issues posed. As of August 2023, Christine works as a Group Administrator at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab.
She is the co-owner of JayMedia Group, head of the publishing division. She enjoys learning new things, meeting and collaborating with new people, providing resources and helping the community, especially children and senior citizens. She is currently the 2nd Vice Chair (Fundraising Committee) for the Woman’s Club of Laurel, a member of Laurel Board of Trade and has a leadership, and many other roles at New Vision, her church home since 1996.
