Space Weather Alert - Severe Geomagnetic Storm Watch
The National Weather Service has issued a G4 (Severe) Geomagnetic Storm Watch for tomorrow, January 20, 2026. A coronal mass ejection (CME), an eruption of solar material and magnetic fields, left the Sun on January 18, 2026 and is anticipated to arrive at Earth very late this evening through very early tomorrow morning. Watches at this level are very rare. Impacts to critical infrastructure technology are possible. Auroras may become visible over much of the northern half of the country as far south as Alabama.
