City of Laurel Coordinates Support for Residents Affected by the Federal Government Shutdown

News - Press Releases Posted on October 31, 2025

Laurel, MD — The City of Laurel is closely monitoring the ongoing federal government shutdown and the resulting delay in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit disbursements. Recognizing the financial uncertainty this creates for individuals and families, the City is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that residents are aware of and connected to local resources that provide support during this disruption.

“The City of Laurel remains steadfast in its responsibility to safeguard the well-being of our residents,” said Mayor Keith R. Sydnor. “While the federal government works to resolve this shutdown, our focus is on ensuring that no Laurel resident goes without access to food, emergency assistance, or support services. We have strong partnerships in place, and we are prepared to assist anyone who needs help.”

Residents affected by delayed federal benefits or experiencing financial hardship may access support through City-operated and partner organizations.  (Click Here for full listing)
