Laurel, MD — The City of Laurel will conduct its General Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, to fill five (5) City Council seats. The election will be administered by the City’s Board of Election Supervisors and will be conducted in a hybrid format to increase voter accessibility.
The following seats will be on the ballot:
- Two (2) Councilmember seats for Ward 1
- Two (2) Councilmember seats for Ward 2
- One (1) At-Large Councilmember seat
All Councilmembers will serve a two-year term, beginning with the second regular Council meeting following the election, and will remain in office until the qualification of their successors.
Candidate Qualifications
To qualify as a candidate for City Council, individuals must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a registered voter in City elections
- Have resided within the City of Laurel and the ward they seek to represent for at least one year (365 days) prior to Election Day
- Candidates for the At-Large seat must reside within the City of Laurel for the same period
Councilmembers must continue to reside in the ward from which they were elected (unless elected At-Large) and maintain their voter registration throughout their term in office.

Individuals interested in running for a City Council seat must contact the City Clerk’s Office to schedule an appointment by emailing elections@laurel.md.us or calling 301-725-5300, Ext. 2120.
Candidate Packets will be available by appointment only from July 7, 2025, through July 24, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. The deadline to submit completed Candidate Packets is Friday, July 25, 2025 by 12:00 p.m. Please Note: Late submissions will not be accepted or considered under any circumstances.
