News - Press Releases Posted on April 17, 2025

[Laurel, MD April 17, 2025] - A two-alarm fire that broke out Thursday afternoon at the Laurel Garden Apartments has displaced multiple residents. The fire, reported shortly after Noon, impacted 12 units at 906 and 908 Park Avenue. One person was transported with minor injuries. While the fire remains under investigation, it is believed to have been accidental and to have started on a balcony.

The American Red Cross responded quickly and is working with residents to provide emergency assistance and temporary housing. In addition, the City of Laurel is offering support through the Laurel Multiservice Center (LMSC) for displaced individuals and families. Available services include hot meals, access to showers and laundry facilities, and referrals to additional community resources.

“We know this has been a frightening experience for those affected,” said Mayor Keith R. Sydnor. “In difficult moments like this, it’s important for our community to come together. If you’ve been displaced, please don’t hesitate to use the services available. We’re here to help you through.”

The Laurel Multiservice Center, located at 204 Fort Meade Road, is open to assist affected families. For more information, residents may contact Marchelle LeBlanc, Director of Human Services, at Mleblanc@laurel.md.us.
