The Patrol Division is the largest organizational component of the Laurel Police Department.  Officers assigned to this division wear uniforms and usually patrol in marked police cars or on foot. Some officers may patrol on motorcycles, bicycles, or segways.  Patrol officers are the first to respond to calls for police service, and proactively enforce traffic violations and other crimes.  There are currently 5 patrol squads, each supervised by a Sergeant and assisted by two Corporals.  Squads rotate shifts between days, evenings, and midnights to provide 24 hour police coverage to the City.
