The primary responsibility of the Central Records Division is to secure, store and maintain custody of the Department's records. Central Records personnel are responsible for data entry of all reports, review of red light violations and for Uniform Crime reporting to the State of Maryland and federal government.

Reports

A police report fee is $10.00 per report, payable using cash, a money order, or Visa or MasterCard. Citizens must come in-person to the police department and present a valid government issued identification card in order to receive a report.

Your insurance company can send a letter of request for a report on your behalf. The letter must include the client’s name, case/report number, and any pertinent information, plus the $10.00 report fee payable by business check or money order.  Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with the request and mail to:

Vehicle Releases

The fee for a vehicle release form is a $40.00, payable by using cash, a money order, or Visa/MasterCard.  Business hours of the Records Unit is Monday-Friday 8AM - 5PM ET.  After normal business hours, vehicle releases may be obtained by going to the Communications window which is located directly across the corridor from the Records window.  Please note, Communications can only accept money orders or exact amount in cash. To obtain a vehicle release, the registered owner of the vehicle must appear in person at the Laurel Police Department with a valid government issued photo identification card and proof of ownership of the vehicle.

Valid Proof of Identification Include:

  • Photo Identification Card issued by a State Motor Vehicle Administration
  • Passport
  • Military Identification Card

Valid Proof of Vehicle Ownership Include:

  • Vehicle title in the registered owner’s name, not the seller’s name
  • Valid vehicle registration card
  • Valid, notarized “bill of sale” plus signed-over Title from seller

 

MVA Flag Release

If you have received an MVA Flag for a Red Light Camera citation, Speed Camera citation or a Parking citation, you must first pay the citation using one of the payment methods listed for that type of citation. Once payment is received, MVA will be electronically notified within 24-hours to release the flag hold on your account.  You will also need to go in-person or to the MVA website to pay the $30 administrative fee that MVA charges for the flagging process. www.mva.maryland.gov.
