Released on September 16, 2021 - 12:10pm

For the safety of Laurel’s Public Works crews and citizens, Mayor Craig A. Moe and Public Works Director Brian Lee announced that effective on Monday, October 11, 2021, City of Laurel residents, businesses and associations requesting Department of Public Works Bulky Item collections of mattresses and box springs will be required to completely cover them with a mattress cover or a protective plastic covering. Mattress covers can be found at most hardware stores for a nominal cost.

If, after October 11th, you set out a mattress or box spring without the protective covering, they will not be picked up.

If residents decide to take their mattresses and box springs to the Prince Georges County Landfill themselves, they will not be required to be covered in protective encasement.

If you have any questions about this new policy, or any other service provided by the Department of Public Works, please call 301-725-0088 between 8:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
