The Department of Public Works is responsible for installing and maintaining traffic control devices and parking regulation signs along the City’s streets. Transportation and Public Safety Committee
The Transportation and Public Safety Committee is appointed by the Mayor and City Council. They review traffic ordinances, traffic safety problems, and other public safety concerns. The committee's members include elected and public safety officials along with citizens. This Department provides traffic engineering and staff assistance to the committee. This Committee meets monthly or as needed and we welcome your comments and suggestions about traffic and other safety problems. The Department currently maintains ten (10) traffic signals at various City intersections. To report potential problems or signals not working please call us at 301-725-0088.
The Department recommends and designs traffic calming on City-owned streets, as needed. The Department conducts speed counts on local roads by request. To request a speed count on a City street, please call us at 301-725-0088.
