City Holidays and Changes in Refuse/Recycling Collections for 2017

The City observes the following holidays and offices will be closed. The Department does not provide refuse/recycling collection services on these City Holidays. Please check the following schedule for changes in your refuse/recycling collection. Altered Refuse and Recycling Schedules:

  • IF A HOLIDAY FALLS ON A MONDAY: Monday’s refuse and recycling will be collected on Tuesday. Tuesday’s refuse and recycling will be collected on Wednesday.
  • IF A HOLIDAY FALLS ON A TUESDAY: Tuesday’s refuse and recycling will be collected on Wednesday.
  • IF A HOLIDAY FALLS ON A WEDNESDAY: No change in refuse and recycling collection.
  • IF A HOLIDAY FALLS ON A THURSDAY: Thursday’s refuse and recycling will be collected on Friday.
  • THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY SCHEDLUE: No refuse or recycling collection on Thursday or Friday. Thursday & Friday's recycling will be collected on Wednesday. Service will resume on the next scheduled collection day.
  • IF A HOLIDAY FALLS ON A FRIDAY: Thursday’s and Friday’s refuse and recycling will be collected on Thursday.

Any changes to the refuse and recycling collections will be published in The Laurel Leader, Gazette and also on the City's website, www.cityoflaurel.org.  When in doubt, call the Department of Public Works!

Seasonal Public Works Events and Services

     

    Winter . . . December . . . January . . . February

      CHRISTMAS TREE COLLECTION: During January, trees will be collected on WEDNESDAY of each week. Please place your tree wherever you normally place your trash. Residents do NOT need to call in for a collection.

       

      Spring . . . March . . . April . . . May

      SPRING CLEAN UP MONTH/COMMUNITY RECYCLING: Residential and Yard Debris pickups will be offered every week (expect for holiday weeks). April is designated as SPRING CLEANUP MONTH. Additional yard debris collections will be offered throughout the month. The Department of Public Works will participate in neighborhood and community projects as well as the Main Street Festival. The City will also hold a city-wide recycling event – call Public Works for more details.

       

      Summer . . . June . . . July . . . August

      STREET SWEEPING, PUBLIC SAFETY MAINTENANCE AND MOSQUITO CONTROL PROGRAM: The Department begins its annual city-wide street sweeping activities. The street sweeper will be in your neighborhood on your refuse collection days. The Department’s Street Crews will begin street repairs and crosswalks enhancements. The annual Mosquito Control Program will begin.

       

      Fall . . . September . . . October . . . November

      LEAF COLLECTION: Beginning sometime in October, the City provides weekly leaf vacuum services. The leaf vacuum will continue through the beginning of December. Please refer to the Leaf Collection Schedule and Mapfor information on how to prepare for leaf vacuum and to determine the collection day for your street.

       

      Special Refuse/Yard Debris Collections . . .

      In addition to the regular refuse and recycling collection provided to residents on a weekly basis, the Department of Public Works also offers "special refuse collection" and yard debris collections throughout the year. Please refer to the DPW Calendar for the schedule of dates. Detailed information about the collections can be found in the Resident Information Calendar and on the Trash Collection and Bulk Pickup page.

      Collection of large, bulky items will be made as shown on the calendar. There is a base fee of $10 charged for each residential special pickup. An additional fee of $5/$10/$15/$20/$25 per item is charged for certain items (all electronics, large pieces of furniture, TVs, major appliances, oversized pieces of lumber, etc.) and a fee of $10 is charged for passenger tires (up to 16.5").       Yard debris collection is Free! But you must make a request to be on the pickup.  The date for yard debris pickups are shown on the calendar. Additional collection days are offered in April.
