Please join City of Laurel Mayor Craig A. Moe in sending condolences to the family of former HR Specialist III Mrs. Cathy Harvey who passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 2, 2022, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after a long illness.
Cathy was born on July 31,1960 to Edward and Irene Izumi in Washington, DC. Cathy and her family made their home in Maryland City.
After graduating from Meade High School in 1978, Cathy went to work for Montgomery Wards in Laurel, Maryland. It was there that Cathy met her love and future husband, Calvin Harvey, the City of Laurel’s current Fleet Maintenance Superintendent.
Cathy worked at Montgomery Wards until it closed in 2001 when she was hired by the City of Laurel as a Personnel Specialist II and was promoted up the ranks to HR Specialist III. She was selected as Employee of the Year twice during her 20 years with the City, once in 2007 and again in 2015.
Cathy was often the first face new employees saw during their orientation and was always available to answer questions and generally assisted all employees with personnel and benefits questions. Ms. Harvey was forced to retire in October 2021 due to illness.
Cathy’s greatest loves were her daughters Amy and Elizabeth. Traveling to their volleyball games and tournaments became a family event, and always brought a smile to her face. Seeing her daughters as they grew into lovely young women brought her such joy! Family was Cathy’s priority.
Cathy will be greatly missed by her husband Calvin and her daughters as well as her father, Edward, brothers, Laren, David, Kenny and Michael, her in-laws William and Mary Harvey and numerous nieces and nephews as well as her City of Laurel family. Cathy was preceded in death by her mother Irene and her sister Karen.
