This year’s Laurel Historical Society holiday ornament honors both the history and natural beauty of The Grove in Laurel and its community.
The Grove, whose name originated from the large oak trees that grew there, was the center of Laurel's African American community beginning in the 19th century and for generations at a time when African Americans were restricted to living in the area.
The 2021 Laurel Historical Society collectable holiday ornament features a full color design of a large oak tree that once stood in The Grove across the street from historic St. Mark's United Methodist Church at the corner of West and 8th Streets in Laurel, Maryland.
