Released on October 1, 2021 - 4:25pm

At the September 27, 2021, Mayor and City Council Meeting, Mayor Craig A. Moe issued Proclamation No. 2021-23 proclaiming October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

In addition to the proclamation, Mayor Moe has instructed the Department of Laurel Parks and Recreation to light up City facilities in purple to show support and awareness of those suffering from Domestic Violence.

The crime of domestic violence violates an individual’s dignity, privacy, security, and humanity through the systemic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and economic control and/or abuse, not to forget the effects domestic violence has on children.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month calls attention to the importance of working together to assure a life free from harm for ALL residents of the City of Laurel.

If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship and in need of resources and help, please call the Laurel Police Department at 301-498-0092.
