Released on December 4, 2020 - 1:58pm

UPDATE: Due to equipment and technical issues, the scheduled drone flyovers have been postponed for approximately 6 - 8 weeks. Please stay tuned to our social media platforms and we will let you know when the flyovers resume.

If you look to the skies from December 9th through December 30th, between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm, you may see a small unmanned aircraft system (drone) in the areas of the Bear, Crow and Walker Branches of the Patuxent River in Laurel (see map).

Mayor Craig A. Moe announced that the City of Laurel will be working with the Maryland Environmental Services to capture video stills limited to the stream areas that will provide data collection for future mitigation projects.

This project, which will greatly assist the City in determining any potential flooding concerns in those areas, has been approved by the Transportation Security Administration and the Federal Aviation Administration.

Please be sure to share this information with your neighbors and if you should have any concerns, you can call the Laurel Police Department’s non-emergency number at 301-498-0092.
