Mayor Craig A. Moe is delighted to announce that four (4) Main Street Grants have been awarded to three (3) businesses within our Main Street grant area.

The City’s interest in providing these grants is to help businesses succeed and grow on Main Street and in the process, continue to provide local jobs and create new jobs for residents of the greater Laurel area.

The City of Laurel has two Main Street Grant Programs: the Main Street Business Relocation Grant and the Main Street Storefront Façade Improvement Program. The goal of these programs is to provide business owners funding for startup or relocation costs.

The current grant recipients are:

  • Sankofa Yoga and Wellness Center - 302 Main Street - awarded $10,000.00 by the Main Street Business Relocation Grant Program. “We’re extremely happy to receive and be considered for the Main Street Business Relocation grant. Growing up in in the City of Laurel I understood the importance of community and service, making it a true honor being able to spread health and wellness to the great residents of the city and surrounding communities.”
  • Yogi Smile - 417 Main Street - awarded $5,000.00 by the Main Street Storefront Façade Improvement Program. “When I decided to open a Yoga studio, I wanted to choose a location that would be easily accessible to the local community, but also somewhere that did not already have many yoga studios, and the residents would benefit the most. I learned about the business opportunities and development plans for the wonderful historic district of Laurel Main Street. Before I knew it, I was renovating 417 Main Street in preparations to start YogiSmile Yoga and Wellness Center to offer Yoga and other wellness services to the Laurel community. Namaste!”
  • Footage Society - 697 Washington Boulevard - awarded a total of $13,298.16 by the Main Street Business Relocation Grant Program and the Main Street Storefront Façade Improvement Program. “With the City of Laurel’s grant opportunities, we were able to invest more funding to our relocation such as upgrading bathroom, hiring contractors, etc. to truly meet our vision. The Economic Development Coordinator was truly a blessing guiding us from the beginning to the end making the process of transition extremely easy. We are grateful that the City of Laurel granted us with a vital element that contributed in making our dreams come true."
