Armed Carjacking Suspect Apprehended

Laurel Police, with the assistance of Prince George’s County officers, have arrested  a suspect in an armed carjacking that took place in the 14600 block of Baltimore Avenue in Laurel on Sunday, November 18, 2018.   32 year old Erick Orlando Alfaro of Hyattsville has been charged with the carjacking.

In the early evening hours of November 18th, officers responded to a report of an armed carjacking in which the suspect displayed a handgun and demanded the keys to the victim’s vehicle and then fled in it.

The carjacking was captured on surveillance tape at a nearby business and clearly showed the suspect walking through an adjacent parking lot . Detectives also tracked the victim’s phone that had been left inside the stolen vehicle.

Tracking the location of the phone gave the Laurel police the location of the vehicle in Hyattsville.  Laurel Police Department communications dispatchers relayed this information to Prince George’s County Police, who then assisted in the investigation and located the stolen vehicle and the suspect.

A Laurel police officer took the victim to Hyattsville and the suspect was positively identified.

Laurel Mayor Craig A. Moe and Police Chief Richard McLaughlin would like to recognize and thank Pfc. Bell, Det. Fillinich, Pfc. O’Neil, Pfc. Paredes, Cpl. Rexine, Cpl. Rice and in Communications-- Sgt. Henson and PCS. Googooian for their roles in this arrest.
