Mayor Craig A. Moe is pleased to announce a new City of Laurel partnership with W.I.S.E. (Winning in Sports and Education) for a youth football league!

In an effort to provide more opportunities to local children, W.I.S.E. has teamed up with experienced and vetted coaches of the Metro Spartans and veteran directors of the former Laurel Hurricanes to add football to their list of sports.

W.I.S.E. will be offering spring tackle football for children age five to eleven starting in March 2017. Children of City of Laurel residents can join a team for $65 and those living outside of the city limits can join for $70.  Vouchers are available through the City of Laurel’s Department of Parks and Recreation for City residents only, who meet the criteria.

In-person registration will take place at the Robert J. DiPietro Community Center from 1:00-3:00pm on February 18, 2017, and March 4, 2017.  Online registrations will be accepted at For additional information about football or other W.I.S.E programs, call 410-656-WISE.

W.I.S.E. is unique in that they are committed to giving youth a pro-like experience through high energy sports events and programs, while teaching sports fundamentals and key life skills that increase personal and academic growth.

The City of Laurel developed their Youth Sports Alliances to assist in providing athletic programs for youth. These efforts are to maintain existing athletic programs and facilities and provide for future development.

The Robert J. DiPietro Community Center is located at 7901 Cypress Street, Laurel, MD, 20707.  Visit the City’s web site at or call 301-725-7800 for more information.
