Mayor Craig A. Moe announced that his Administration has begun the process of developing local legislation for green building and affordable housing requirements. Mayor Moe stated that his Administration has been promoting and encouraging the development community to apply the intent of these requirements. Mayor Moe added that the time has come for the City to take the next step in providing all encompassing regulations for development in the City of Laurel, citing the importance for the City to formalize and clearly express its expectations for environmentally sensitive construction, renovation, and rehabilitation of properties within the City.

Mayor Moe further announced that Council President Frederick Smalls and a Planning Commission representative designated by Chairman C. Michael Walls will work with him and Staff to develop this legislation. Mayor Moe said he expects this legislation will be ready to present to the City Council at its January, 2008 Work Session.

Mayor Moe asked that anyone interested in submitting their comments and ideas may do so by submitting them to Mr. Karl D. Brendle, Director, Department of Community Planning and Business Services, at 301-725-5300, or by email at [email protected].
