City of Laurel Mayor Craig A. Moe and Chief of Police Dave Crawford are inviting our citizens to join the members of Laurel Police Department as they participate in the Special Olympic Torch Run June 5, 2008. Police Officers from Laurel will leave from the Safeway Store located 14368 Baltimore Avenue and run north on Baltimore Avenue and into Howard County. The ceremony begins at 8 A.M. at the Safeway located in Laurel Lakes Shopping Center.

Each year, the Laurel Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies throughout Maryland, conduct the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics to raise money and increase awareness for Special Olympics. The Special Olympics provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
