At approximately 10 PM last night Laurel
Police received a call regarding a shooting in the 15400 block Arbory
Way. When officers arrived they found a female lying on the sidewalk
suffering from gunshot wounds to the face. The victim was conscious and
was able to tell the officers who shot her. The victim identified as
Soyini Taylor age 34 was transported to the hospital in critical
condition.

     The investigation by the Laurel
Police reveals that the suspect approached the victim as she was
exiting her vehicle and shot her once in the face The victim collapsed
onto the sidewalk where the suspect stood over her and fired another
shot to the face. The victim told police she had a restraining order
against the suspect

     The suspect was identified as Aqil Abdul- Haqq age 32 of the 2500
block Markham Lane in Hyattsville. The suspect fled the scene, prior to
the arrival of Police Officers in a 1998 Ford Explorer, Blue in color
with Virginia tags YKH1895.

     Surrounding jurisdictions were requested to lookout for the
suspect and vehicle. A Maryland State Police Trooper located the
vehicle on Interstate 95 just north of Route 32. The suspect was found
in the vehicle dead apparently by a self inflicted gunshot wound to the
head.

     The victim remains hospitalized. Her condition has been upgraded to stable.
