    Mayor Craig A. Moe and the Laurel City
Council are pleased to announce the re-naming of the Laurel Community
Center located at 7901 Cypress Street. During a ceremony on March 11,
2009, family, friends, city employees and guests gathered and surprised
Former Mayor Robert "Bobby Joe" J. DiPietro with the announcement and
unveiling.

    Mayor Moe and the City Council wanted
to show their appreciation to former Mayor DiPietro for his continuous
work and dedication to the City of Laurel which began 35 years ago.
Bobby Joe was elected to the City Council from 1974 though 1976 and in
1978 he was elected Mayor and held the position though 1984. During
this time, he was called to the White House on four occasions by
President Ronald Regan where he assisted in various government
policies. He went on to become a staff member for Governor William
Donald Schaefer during his administration. His work with the City has
never stopped and he continues to serve on many committees with the
City of Laurel. 

    Mayor Moe stated, “This is a token of our appreciation for your
devotion to the citizens of Laurel and the hard work you do, that this
Community Center will now be known as the Robert J. DiPietro Community
Center.”
