City of Laurel Mayor Craig A. Moe expresses
his support for the up-coming Prince George’s Hospital Center series of
support groups for patients and their families who may need or have had
implanted cardiac defibrillator devices.
Presentations will be made
about basic heart health, risk factors and often asked questions when
considering device therapy.

The support group will be held on August 26, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. –
8:00 p.m. at Prince George’s Hospital Center, Pavilion 3001 Hospital
Drive, Cheverly, Maryland.

The goals of this CHF support group includes sharing lifestyle
modifications, such as dietary and weight management, exercise and
conserving energy, smoking cessation and reduction of excess fluids;
pharmacological information; and emotional well-being. Removing
patients from traditional ‘ doctor office setting ‘ while allowing them
to learn more about their disease and share common emotional and
physical experiences can be an opportunity to move forward with a
program that serves their best interests.

Congestive Heart Failure claims the lives of upward of 250,000
patients per year and according to the American Heart Association,
58,800,000 Americans have one or more types of cardiovascular disease.
Mayor Moe encourages Laurel citizens to take advantage of this free
Support Group on Congestive Heart Failure and learn how to manage this
serious condition.
