Mayor Craig A. Moe has announced that City Offices will be closed on December 24, 2009, Christmas Eve Day to allow City employees extra time to spend with their families. Like previous Mayors have done in the past, Mayor Moe has closed City Offices at noon on Christmas Eve Day. Mayor Moe advised for this year, he is supportive of the sentiment expressed by President Barack Obama that closing for the entire day will add to the economy by allowing City employees to extend their Christmas shopping, travel to family destinations a day earlier, or both.

Mayor Moe noted that most City Offices are staffed Christmas Eve Day by skeleton crews and that closing for the entire day will have no impact on City services. He added that Public Works will have a refuse collection truck canvas the City to collect any trash that may be out. Mayor Moe encouraged residents who can wait until the following week for refuse collection to please do so.

Mayor Moe also advised that in keeping with past tradition, all City Offices will close at 1:00 p.m. on December 31, 2009, New Year's Eve Day. All City services will continue that day without interruption.

Mayor Moe, with the Laurel City Council, wishes all City residents and businesses the happiest of holidays.
