Mayor Craig A. Moe is pleased to announce that the City of Laurel has been awarded the 2010 Playful City USA award. This is the second consecutive Playful City USA award for the City of Laurel. The award is sponsored by the nationally recognized KaBoom organization which sponsors funding and playgrounds for communities, schools, and cities. Mayor Moe states, “KaBoom is a leader in preaching the message that play is an important part of the development of our youth and for the continued health of adults. I am proud that our city, communities, and schools joined together to promote the importance of play for all ages.” Mayor Moe is happy to say that “as an example of our commitment, the City has recently replaced playgrounds at Discovery Park and Roland B. Sweitzer Community Park and plans are in place to replace the playground at Snowden Park.”
The Playful City award requires a commitment to developing, maintaining, and supporting play activities city wide. This includes parks and recreation activities as well as programs with in the schools.
