On December 16th, 2011 at 1041 hours, officers responded to the front of 322 Main Street Laurel, Prince George’s County, Maryland for an armed carjacking. Officers were told by the victim that a suspect wearing a full camouflage outfit entered the driver’s side of her Ford Freestyle SUV while she was in the passenger seat with the vehicle idling. The suspect threatened the victim with a weapon and she exited the vehicle. The suspect then fled East bound on Main Street.
Through investigation, the suspect was positively identified as Michael Anthony Carotenuto (W/M 04/06/71). The stolen SUV was recovered in Baltimore and Carotenuto has been charged.
On January 7th, 2011 at approximately 1449 hours, units responded for an armed subject in the Laurel Mall parking lot near the back of the Open Center. A white male with multiple tattoos was observed by security officers pointing a shotgun at a group of black teenage males and females while yelling racial slurs at them. The suspect then confronted the security officers with the shotgun then fled the area in an older Red Mustang. Patrol Officers supplied SOD with a possible suspect, Robert Gonzales W/M DOB 05/22/56, based on the description provided by the security officers. A photo line-up was generated with Gonzales’ photo, and a positive ID was made by one of the security officers. The probable cause was reviewed by an assistant state’s attorney and approved a warrant for 1st degree assault and reckless endangerment.
Laurel Police Officers apprehended Robert Gonzlales on January 20th, 2011 in the unit block of B Street, Laurel, Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Investigation continues into identifying the juvenile victims, who are believed to be from Laurel High School. Laurel High School has been briefed of the incident and is helping the Laurel Police to identify the victims.
