Mayor Craig A. Moe would like the residents of Laurel to know that the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory that will go into effect at 11:00pm tonight, Friday, January 20, 2012.

The National Weather Service has issued the advisory for a coating up to one inch of snow and sleet with a trace up to a tenth of an inch of freezing rain. The advisory will be in effect until 1:00pm Saturday, January 21, 2012.

The precipitation will begin as a period of snow and sleet this evening and will change to freezing rain and rain overnight before ending as rain on Saturday. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s and low 30s tonight with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s on Saturday.

The wintry precipitation will cause slippery traveling conditions through Saturday morning, so if you must travel, please use precaution and preparedness actions. The City of Laurel Public Works crews are prepared and will be monitoring roadway conditions for possible de-icing operations.

Stay tuned to local news and social media sites for updates as the system passes through the area.
