Mayor Craig A. Moe is pleased to announce this year’s Maryland Municipal League’s (MML) annual “If I Were Mayor, I Would…” essay theme, “Meeting the Challenge.”

Mayor Moe says the best way to ensure that students understand how Municipal Government works is to get them involved. Information was mailed to all public and private schools and Mayor Moe is asking that all 4th graders in Laurel put pen to paper and answer the following essay questions; Of the problems or tasks you’ve identified in your city, which would you address as Mayor?; and how would you encourage your citizens to meet these challenges? To help strengthen the 4th graders essay, it is encouraged to use real-life examples from your city.

If your school does not have the information packet that was sent out by Maryland Municipal League, the entry form and study guide can be downloaded from the MML website at https://www.mdmunicipal.org/404.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/programs/contest.cfm.

The essay contest is open to all 4th graders in the state of Maryland enrolled during the 2011-2012 school year. Entries can be sent to Mayors’ Contest, Maryland Municipal League, 1212 West Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. Eleven winners will be chosen and each will receive $100 and will be invited to participate in the Contest Awards Ceremony. Original essays must be submitted to MML by 5:00pm on March 30, 2012.
