Mayor Craig A. Moe has announced the retirement of City of Laurel Public Information Officer James Collins.  Mr. Collins will retire on March 31, 2012, after 38 years of dedicated service to the City of Laurel.

Mayor Moe applauded Mr. Collins for his distinguished career.  Mr. Collins started his City employment as a Dispatcher in the Laurel Police Department.  From there he later became Services Supervisor where he was responsible for the Communications and Records Sections of the Department.  During this time, he also served as the Department’s Public Information Officer.  Mayor Moe saw the need for a City-wide Public Information Officer and named Mr. Collins to this position in 2002.

Mayor Moe said he very much appreciated Mr. Collins’ efforts on behalf of the City and the Department. During his service as Public Information Officer, Mr. Collins established many valuable media contacts in both the Baltimore and Washington areas.  He became the Media’s “go to” person for all Laurel events and incidents.

Mayor Moe said he wishes Mr. Collins and his family the very best in retirement and in his future endeavors.

Mayor Moe advised that Ms. Carreen Koubek, the City’s Community Services Officer, will serve as the Acting Public Information Officer until such time as a replacement can be named.  Mayor Moe said Ms. Koubek can be contacted at 301-725-5300, Ext 2109.
