Mayor Craig A. Moe has announced the “Mayor’s Summer Jobs” program will continue for the 2012 summer. Mayor Moe noted that this program won the 2011 Maryland Municipal League Achievement Award, an honor for which he is very proud. Mayor Moe thanked the Laurel City Council for its support of the continuation of this program. The purpose of this program is to provide meaningful employment opportunities for Laurel youth during the summer months.
The Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program is open to Laurel youth who are City residents between the ages of 14 to 16 on the first day of the program. Youth in the program must have their parent’s or guardian’s written permission to participate in the program and provide a Work Permit from their school Guidance Office, if applicable. The daily work schedule will vary depending upon the Department the position is assigned to, but in no case will exceed 20 hours per week. The hourly rate of pay will be $7.25 per hour. Typical assignments may include general office work, inspection assistance, etc. Work assignments are intended to be meaningful that will help motivate career consideration, develop good work habits, and promote the City of Laurel. The required dress standard will be appropriate to the assignment. Actual employment dates will be from June 25, 2012 through August 17, 2012, a period of eight weeks.

All applications must be received on or before 5:00 p.m. May 11, 2012. All qualified applicants will go through an interview process.
