Mayor Craig A. Moe is pleased to announce that the City of Laurel was honored to receive the first place prize for Emergency Responder in the May 12, 2012 Main Street Festival parade. The prize was presented to the City by the Laurel Board of Trade for the participation of Sparky the Fire Dog and Sniffy the Smoke Alarm mascots in the parade.

Sparky the Fire Dog and Sniffy the Smoke Alarm were obtained through funding provided by the City of Laurel Emergency Services Commission Grant Program. Both mascots are instrumental in the City’s annual Fire Prevention Month shows produced by City staff to educate the elementary school students in the City of Laurel about fire safety and prevention.

For more information about the mascots or the Fire Prevention shows, please call Carreen Koubek, Community Services Officer, at 301-725-5300 ext. 2109.
