Mayor Craig A. Moe is pleased to announce the third year of the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program is underway in City Offices. Twelve students, ages 14-16, who live in the City of Laurel have earned summer internship positions in the Office of the Mayor, Office of the City Council, City Administrator’s Office, Laurel Police Department and the Departments of Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Information Technology, Community Planning and Business Services and Budget and Personal Services.<?xml:namespace prefix = o />
The Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program, which won the Maryland Municipal League’s 2011 Achievement Award, is very popular, and was highlighted at the Annual June conference. Mayor Moe stated, “I’m just sorry we could only take 12 students from the 38 who applied this year. City Staff members have enjoyed the opportunity to work with the youth of our community in their offices, and we believe the students are learning about their City government and gaining useful knowledge about the Departments they are working in, as well as getting real-life experience in the working world.”
