Laurel Police Chief Richard P. McLaughlin has announced the retirement of Major Robert Keith Mapp effective October 1, 2012. Major Mapp has been with the City of Laurel Police Department for 20 years, during which time he has progressed through the ranks and was appointed to the rank of Major in January 2011. He is highly decorated and his career has been impeccable. Major Mapp started his police career in Landover Hills and began with the Laurel Police Department in September 1992.
Chief McLaughlin commended Major Mapp for his commitment and dedication to the Laurel Police Department. Throughout Major Mapp’s service, he worked in every Department function, making it a better department for those who are following him.
As a result of Major Mapp’s retirement, the Department has been restructured resulting in the following promotions to be effective October 6, 2012; James Brooks will be appointed to Deputy Chief of Police; Steve Ivory will be promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant; and Amy Burkett will be promoted to the Police Corporal.
