Mayor Craig A. Moe has announced the second annual City of Laurel Employee Volunteer Service Program. It is modeled after Maryland Governor O’Malley’s program for State employees that allow an employee to take four hours of administrative leave for the purpose of volunteering at a local non-profit organization to assist in holiday preparations for others. Eligible non-profit organizations are those that have a valid 501c(3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service. The volunteer service must not attempt to promote religious beliefs or influence legislation, governmental policy, or election to public office.
The purpose of this program is to provide Laurel’s volunteer organizations with the assistance they need, and to make it easier for City employees to volunteer their time. During this holiday season, when many in our community are dealing with unemployment, hunger, homelessness, or other adversity, it is hoped that City employees will provide Laurel non-profit organizations with volunteers who are available during the work day to assist them in meeting their holiday goals. This program will run during November and December, 2012.
As a committed volunteer with thousands of hours of contributed services, Mayor Moe understands and recognizes the great value of volunteer services.
