Mayor Craig A. Moe has announced that City Offices will be closed Monday, January 21, 2013 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Mayor Moe is reminding everyone that City Code does not allow refuse or recycling to be placed out to the curb for collection until after 7:00 p.m. the night before the scheduled collection.   To do so earlier is a violation of City Code and subject to citation. The City asks that you please make sure your refuse and recyclables are secured from blowing away in high wind situations. City Code also states that all refuse and recycling containers be returned to either your garage or placed in the rear of your home on the day of pick up.

Monday’s refuse and recycling will be collected on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 and Tuesday’s refuse and recycling will be collected on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.

There will be no Residential Special Pickup or Yard Debris collection the week of January 21, 2013. Our next scheduled Residential Special Pickup and Yard Debris collection will be on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. You can schedule a pickup by either e-mailing the Department of Public Works at [email protected] or calling 301-725-0088.

Mayor Craig A. Moe and City Council President Fred Smalls also would like to invite the citizens of Laurel to attend the 2013 “Sing for King” event.  The event will take place Sunday, January 20, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Laurel, 15000 First Baptist Lane, in Laurel. The City will also place a Remembrance Wreath at the City’s Peace Pole on Friday, January 18 at 4:30pm. The public is invited to attend.

Thank you and we wish you a safe and happy holiday.
