A Laurel Police Officer was assaulted, which resulted in an arrest and the Laurel Police Department Criminal Investigations Division recently solved 2 armed robberies with the arrest of 2 adults and 4 juveniles.

On 1/09/13 in the 300 block of Gorman Avenue, an Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle going over 100 miles per hour.  The driver exited the car and attempted to fight the Officer.  Santiago Ruiz-Castro of Laurel was arrested and charged with traffic violations and assault on a law enforcement officer. There were no injuries to the arresting Officer.

On 01/05/13, a taxi cab driver was robbed at gunpoint by 4 subjects after he stopped the cab to drop them off.  The victim’s cellphone, keys and $50 were taken during the robbery.  A juvenile female and juvenile male were arrested shortly afterwards for their involvement in the robbery.  Darnell Frederick Eugene of Beltsville and another juvenile female were arrested in the following days by Laurel Police Detectives.  Two of the three juveniles are being charged as adults in this case.

On 12/20/12, a Laurel High School student was assaulted and robbed at gunpoint on a footpath leading from the school.  The victim was transported to Laurel Regional Hospital with minor injuries.  His wallet and other items were taken during the robbery.  Justin Michael Carr of Laurel was arrested later that day for his involvement in the robbery.  A juvenile female was later arrested for her involvement and is being charged as an adult.  Laurel Police Detectives executed a search and seizure warrant and recovered all of the stolen property, as well as the weapon that was used during the robbery.
