ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Tuesday July 26, 2022. At Sweitzer Park
- Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Chairman James Kole at 6:14 PM
- Roll Call
Members present: Council member James Kole, Janice Blitz, Kyla Clark, Jimmy Rogers Staff present: Laura Christoplos.
- Approval of Minutes from June 28, 2022, meeting
The minutes were approved as written
- Report from Environmental Programs Manager
Ms. Blair did not attend. Staff updated the Committee on progress of Sustainable Saturday planning.
Ms. Clark suggested we check out the caterers where the meat market used to be on Main Street. They have a food truck. There is also a food truck behind the Green Point Dispensary.
Mr. Rogers has 6-7 people interested in volunteering at the pollinator garden.
- Goals and Deliverables for Subcommittees

- Ms. Clark would like to see current pictures of the committee members and their activities.
- She would also like to see 1-2 posts per month dealing with awareness, education, and engagement.
- Is there a marketing plan to promote the programs that the 3-year action plan calls for the EAC to promote?
- What is the vision for the EAC page?
- Ms. Clark will send something to the EAC by August 15.
- Bee City
- How do we measure progress on fulfilling the plan items for Bee City?
- Can we measure registrations for pollinator gardens, pledges to plant native plants and create pollinator gardens?
- Do we want to use pollinator protection pledges from Xerces, or do our own thing?
- Mr. Kole mentioned that the Memorial Garden at City Hall is going to be redesigned.
- The EAC should focus on tracking residential pollinator gardens and the progress of the City pollinator garden.
- Public Hearing
There were no members of the public present.
- New Business
- Ms. Clark would like to talk at the next meeting about decreasing the volume of paper advertising mailers. Staff will check into opt out options that may be available.
- Putting a little free library in the pollinator garden and stocking it with gardening books was discussed.
- Next Meeting – September 27, 2022
Mr. Rogers will send out information about the next meeting of the Bee City subcommittee in August.
