FIVE HUNDRED EIGHTY FIRST MEETING

CITY OF LAUREL PLANNING COMMISSION

TUESDAY MARCH 9, 2021 – 6:00 P.M.

 

The meeting convened on a virtual platform through Zoom at 6:00 P.M., with Chairwoman Mitzi R. Betman presiding.  The roll was called with Vice Chairman John Kish and Mr. Bill Wellford. Also, present were Mr. Robert Love, Acting Director and Ms. Brooke Quillen, Secretary to the Commission. Present from the Office of Information Technology, Ms. Cinnamen Fisher, Application Specialist, and Mr. Darnell Butler, Communications Department. There was approximately one (1) member of the public in attendance.

 

The amended minutes of the January 12, 2021 meeting were approved with corrections, on motion by Mr. Wellford seconded by Mr. Kish, and carried on a roll call vote of all members present.

 

The minutes of the February 9, 2021 meeting were approved as written, on motion by Mr. Kish seconded by Mr. Wellford, and carried on a roll call vote of all members present.

 

Next, was Special Exception Application No. 913, 706 Washington Boulevard Laurel, Maryland 20707 filed by Expert Auto & Tires c/o Ijaz Rahman 2905 Dumas Street Alexandria, Virginia  22306.  Mr. Mitchum stated the Applicant is seeking a Special Exception approval to establish and operate a general automotive repair and tire replacement shop. The subject property is zoned Commercial General (C-G), located along US-1 (Washington Blvd). The site is a part of the existing Gorman Shopping Center. The Applicant is proposing to operate Expert Auto & Tires out of an existing building in the shopping center (approximately 5,280 square feet). The most recent use of the property was Monro Muffler & Brake, an automotive repair shop in 2015 (Granted via Special Exception Application No. 856).

 

Chairwoman Betman noted for the record there were zero (0) members of the public signed up to speak on this item however the Applicant was on the call for any questions or comments.

 

The Commission, on motion by Mr. Wellford, seconded by Mr. Kish, and carried on a roll call vote of all members present, voted to recommend approval of the Special Exception No. 913 with the conditions as presented in the Technical Staff Report.

 

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:07 p.m.
