Crary, Councilmember; Valerie M.A. Nicholas, Councilmember; Frederick Smalls, Councilmember; Marty, Flemion, Deputy City Administrator; Bill Goddard, Deputy City Administrator; Lou Ann Crook, Chief of Staff; Kevin Frost, Director of Information Technology; S. Michele Saylor, Director of Budget and Personnel Services; Rob Ferree, Director of Public Works; Dave Cope, Fire Marshal; Audrey Barnes, Director of Communications; Chief Rich, McLaughlin, Police Department; Jack Brock, Director of Economic and Community Development; E. Michael Green, Personnel Officer; Leigha Steele, Economic Development Coordinator.  There was a public attendance of approximately six people. 

 

Presentation about the Laurel Lakes Water Enhancement Program presented by the Clean Water Partnership.  The Prince George’s county adopted a Clean Water Act Fee in 2013 to provide funds to help clean up polluted storm water runoff.   The Clean Water Partnership is working with community members to identify appropriate types of storm water retrofit practices for their properties.  Plans for the upper lake include landscaping.  A permit has been issued and Soltesz has been working with staff from Parks and Recreation and will begin in the spring.  Phase 2 will begin next fall.

 

Bill Goddard, Deputy City Administrator presented Resolution No. 1-17, a resolution of the Council of the City of Laurel, Maryland approving an agreement between the City and the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 11.  Bill Goddard expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to represent the Mayor and City Council during the negotiations.  He especially appreciated the professionalism of the bargaining team from the Laurel Police Department and expressed their appreciation of the Mayor and City Council.  Two additional people were added to the team for future negotiations: Cathy Harvey and Lisa Woods.  He also expressed appreciation to the Chief on behalf of both parties.  Three-year agreement starting July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2020.  President Leszcz asked the Councilmembers to review the agreement provided and to forward any questions to Bill Goddard for response.

 

Leigha Steele, Economic Development Coordinator presented an Action Plan for the revitalization of Main Street. 

 

There being no further business to come before the Mayor and City Council the work session was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
