History
The City of Laurel Tree Board was created and established by Ordinance No. 1074, passed by the Mayor and City Council on March 22, 1993. On September 9th, 2002, with Ordinance No. 1383, the Board was updated to consist of five (5) voting members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Staff support to the Board is appointed by the City Administrator's Office.
Support staff is currently maintained by members of the City's Parks and Recreation Department, as well as a City Council Representative, who assists in a non-voting capacity.
Authority
The Board is charged with studying, investigating and developing an annual tree plan for the care and preservation of trees. The Board is also responsible for developing and maintaining a list of champion trees within the City and investigating, reporting and making recommendation upon any special matters within the scope of its responsibilities.
