SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
An employee in this position may operate a refuse packer and/or a variety of light, heavy and special purpose maintenance and repair equipment. The employee is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned vehicles and equipment. Performance of manual tasks in assigned work is required. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but leeway is granted to exercise independent judgment and initiative. Individuals classified as Equipment Operator I may be non-competitively promoted to Equipment Operator II based on the demonstrated ability to operate all Public Works motorized equipment and two consecutive annual evaluations of Above Average (score of 400 or better out of 500) as Equipment Operator I and the recommendation of the Department Head and the approval of the City Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED Certificate and some experience in equipment operation and roadside maintenance, and/or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the essential requirements of work.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a Maryland Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brakes endorsement or a comparable driver’s license issued by the employee’s state of residence, and a proven safe driving record. Must have the ability to acquire certification as a Registered Flagger. Must be able to attain the following certifications in the Incident Command System (ICS) within 6 months of employment: ICS-100, and ICS-700. EOE
