SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises the activities of patrons at assigned facility to see that policies, rules and regulations are observed and that no safety hazard is created. Warns patrons of improper activities or dangers. Rescues persons in distress or danger of drowning. Maintains an alert attitude when guarding the assigned facility. Reports potential safety hazards to Aquatic Supervisor. Notifies Aquatic Supervisor when patrons fail to follow facility regulations. Assists in cleaning and maintaining the assigned facility and its equipment. Cleans areas of assigned facility, i.e. bottom, sides and skimmers of swimming pool and keeping it free from debris. Cleans boat, dock and park area. Sweeps and hoses decks inside and outside at assigned facility. Cleans fixtures and floors in assigned facility. Willingly and cooperatively accepts other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Possession of current lifeguard training, CPR for the professional rescuer and first aid certificates. Knowledge of water hazards and lifesaving techniques. Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance. Good physical condition to perform manual tasks and to withstand the rigors of varying weather conditions and to execute water rescues. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisor, co-workers, volunteers and participants. Ability to read and understand written instructions and training manuals, make reports and keep records. Ability to remain calm and perform efficiently during emergency situations. Ability to identify all potentially hazardous situations involving patrons or facility and to take corrective action of same. Ability to maintain an alert attitude while guarding at assigned facility. Ability to communicate all information concerning facility rules, regulations and patron safety to the public. EOE.
