Citizen and Student of the Month
For NovemBER 2007!
Citizen of the Month
Nominee: Kelly Miller
Nominated by:
Thanksgiving morning First United Methodist Church hosted their third annual and most successful 5K Turkey Trot Run to benefit Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services. The person that makes it all happen and makes it so successful is Kelly Miller. When Nancy Graham started to work for LARS nearly 3 ½ years ago, Kelly was one of the first people she met. Kelly approached her early on with the idea of organizing a Thanksgiving morning 5K to benefit LARS, and she had the knowledge, power and will to make it happen. In the first year Kelly and the group she organized through FUMC raised more than $4,000 for LARS. Last year it was $6,400, and this year the race appears to be on track to exceed our goal of raising more than $9,000. Kelly has been a quiet advocate for women and children. She has combined her educational training as a nutritionist and personal trainer to provide nutrition training for the homeless women who participate in the LARS transitional housing program, as well as clients at Reality, Inc. She is a silent champion in the community who is very deserving of this honor.
Congratulations and thank you Kelly!
