2013 Movies in the Park

Thu, 05/30/2013

Start your weekend off with a movie in the park! Laurel Department of Parks and Recreation will host five Friday Flicks Outdoor Movies at Granville Gude Park and Lakehouse starting at dusk (approximately 8:00pm).  Bring a blanket, picnic or relaxing chair and enjoy this free entertainment for the whole family.

Join us Friday June 21, 2013 for a screening of Paranorman (PG).  When a small town comes under siege by zombies, who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy, Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.

On Friday, June 28, 2013, we will have a screening of Rise of the Guardians (PG).  When an evil spirit, known as Pitch, lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children all over the world.

Then, on Friday, July 12, 2013, there will be a screening of Arthur Christmas (PG).  This animated feature at last reveals the incredible, never-before seen answer to every child's question: “So how does Santa deliver all those presents in one night?” The answer: Santa's exhilarating, ultra-high-tech operation hidden beneath the North Pole. But at the heart of the film is a story with the ingredients of a Christmas classic - a family in a state of comic dysfunction and an unlikely hero, Arthur, with an urgent mission that must be completed before Christmas morning dawns.

On Friday, July 26, 2013 join us for a screening of Wreck It Ralph (PG).  Wreck-It Ralph longs to be as beloved as his game's perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix. Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes...so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun, Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan -- win a medal -- but soon wrecks everything and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph's only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz, a young troublemaking "glitch" from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy.

Finally, on Friday, August 9, 2013, join us for a screening of Madagascar 3 (PG).  Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple and of course, King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins are all along for the comedic adventure. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent – Madagascar style.
