Passing of Former Laurel Mayor Hardingham

Mayor Craig A. Moe has announced the death of former Laurel Mayor Harry Hardingham. Mayor Hardingham was residing with his daughter at her home in California.
Mayor Hardingham was first elected to the Laurel City Council in 1952, for a two year term. In 1954, he successfully sought the Office of Mayor; he was reelected Mayor in 1956. At that time, the Mayor’s term was for two-years, instead of the four-year terms now in place.
Mayor Hardingham negotiated with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) to take responsibility for the City’s water system. Mayor Hardingham was also a local businessman who owned several local businesses, among them the Laurel Car Wash.
Information regarding funeral services will be announced by the Hardingham family. Mayor Moe expressed the City’s sympathy to Mayor Hardingham’s family and friends. He announced that the City Flag would be flown at half-staff in honor of Mayor Hardingham’s service and contributions to the City of Laurel. The flag will remain at half-staff until 5:00 p.m. the day of funeral services.
