Engineering and Technical Services Bulletin

Thursday May 16, 2013

New Addition to the Laurel City Bike Plan.   The Engineering and Technical Service Division of Public Works is pleased to report the completion of the Lafayette Avenue Bikeway.  The new sharrow pavement markings and the new signs along Lafayette Avenue notify cyclists and motorists to share Lafayette Avenue from Main Street to Bowie Road.

We encourage residents to make use of this newly expanded bike system within the City of Laurel.  We also encourage motorists to please adhere to the 25 MPH speed limit on Lafayette Avenue to help ensure the safety of vehicular and cyclist traffic.

The Department of Public Works is working to expand the Mayor’s Bike plan to include Bowie Road.  This expansion will help citizens to cycle out of the corporate limits of the City of Laurel.  Other expansions include Laurel Place and Mulberry Street, allowing inner city residents to travel to neighboring properties inside the City’s limits.  Further updates to the Mayor’s Bike Plan will be posted as the season progresses.

Check back frequently for daily events, updates of road closings and maintenance progress around the city!
