Traffic Safety
Maintenance
The Department is responsible for maintaining and installing all traffic control and parking regulation signs and devices along City streets. If you notice any signs or signals that need attention, please call us at 301-725-0088.
Sign Installations
All regulatory and traffic control signs must be made in accordance with State Standards and must be authorized by an Ordinance approved by the Mayor and City Council.
Transportation and Public Safety Committee
This committee, appointed by the Mayor and City Council, reviews traffic ordinances, traffic safety problems, and other public safety concerns. The committee's members include elected officials, citizens and public safety officials. The Department provides traffic engineering and staff assistance to the committee. The Committee and the Department welcome your comments and suggestions about traffic or other safety problems. To find out when the next Committee meeting is scheduled, please call 301-725-0088.
Signal Installation
The Department maintains traffic signals on some City streets. To report potential problem areas or signals not working, please call us at 301-725-0088.
Traffic Calming
The Deparment recommends and designs traffic calming on City-owned streets, as needed. The Department conducts speed counts on local roads, by request.
